Welcome to the website of the Early Childhood Reading and Computer Lab. The lab is the place where lots of fun and work will take place.
St. Martin's is very fortunate to have an Early Childhood Reading and Computer Lab. We are even more fortunate this year because Pre-Kindergarten students will be attending weekly to develop early literacy skills. The lab consists of eight computers, a color printer, lots of software, a reading table, bookshelves, lots of reading material and manipulatives. Small centers have been set up for independent time and use when the students visit the lab. Materials can be borrowed to be used in the classroom by the lead teacher.
Every kindergarten and pre-first student comes to the lab twice a week. Once a week, for twenty minutes, the kindergartners will be engaged in small group reading activities. The pre-first students have thirty minutes in small group reading lessons once a week. The activities for reading usually supplement the instruction on which the classroom lead teacher has focused. A second weekly trip to the lab offers a thirty minute small group lesson which engages the students in computer activities. These activities help the students learn and become comfortable with computer skills that include keyboarding, word processing, basic technology, and application skills.
